Most of my blogging tends toward my travel experiences, and diversity in media, but I will also discuss my own creative pursuits, which are generally in the film, writing, and performance fields. I'm also an editor at Solarwyrm Press. Performance: improv, acting, stand-up comedy. Filmmaking: screenwriting, directing, video editing, short films, music videos. Writing: speculative fiction, memoir, short stories. Though I consider myself a citizen of the world, with how many places feel like home to me, I was born and raised in Australia, to American parents. I'm a dual-national of both countries, lived in Malaysia for five and a half years, and now live in the US.
Vigilante Domesticity (Magatama #2)
Quick Intro Spiel This is a follow-up to my last fiction entry, and you can read a longer spiel there. It’s probably preferable that you read that first, since this piece makes reference to events therein. In this piece, we get to experience some of Chariya’s domestic life outside of her vigilantism. The recent events … More Vigilante Domesticity (Magatama #2)
What Really Matters (Sharing Fiction in Progress)
Quick Intro Spiel: I’ve read a lot of comic book content over the last several years, and somehow, last week, I got hit with a story idea that I couldn’t let go of, and knew I’d have to write. Initially I thought it would be like a once-off flash fiction idea, but the more I … More What Really Matters (Sharing Fiction in Progress)
2021 Year End Summary
It’s been more than 5 months since I last published anything to my blog. Of course there are reasons for that. One of them being that I’m working now rather than unemployed and looking for work, so I don’t have as much free time and having new content for potential employers to look at isn’t … More 2021 Year End Summary
Interviewing Authentically. Or: How I Believe I Landed the First Job I Interviewed For Out of My Boot Camp
I’ve had a little bit of a break from my blog again recently. That’s not to say I was out of ideas – I’ve had a draft blog post I’ve been occasionally adding to for about a month, and hopefully I’ll eventually get back to it. But one of the primary reasons I didn’t blog … More Interviewing Authentically. Or: How I Believe I Landed the First Job I Interviewed For Out of My Boot Camp
Nostalgia Reigns the Longer This Pandemic Lasts, Or Why I’ve Been Missing Malaysia Recently
We’re now sitting at over 14 months since the pandemic shut down everything in the San Francisco Bay Area in March 2020. I feel like I’ve gone through a whole gamut of emotions and experiences since it started. There’s been a lot of feeling of disconnect from the life I had prior to the pandemic. … More Nostalgia Reigns the Longer This Pandemic Lasts, Or Why I’ve Been Missing Malaysia Recently
Be a Cheerleader and Reduce Interaction with Permanent Nay Sayers
Think about the kinds of people you want to have in your life. Do you prefer the people who support your dreams and talents, or do you prefer the ones who constantly criticize you with the excuse that they’re pushing you to be “realistic” or “you won’t improve without learning what you’re doing wrong”? Now … More Be a Cheerleader and Reduce Interaction with Permanent Nay Sayers
The Job Hunt Process and Lessons in Networking
After over a year of unemployment, and the recent completion of my Data Analytics boot camp, I’ve submitted an increasing number of job applications. I’m also dealing with waiting on EDD to get through their backlog of processing new claims, which is likely especially bad now because all of us who lost their jobs due … More The Job Hunt Process and Lessons in Networking
The Social Dilemma, Social Engineering, and Ethics in Social Media
Whilst I’ve been unemployed during the pandemic, the excess free time has afforded me opportunities to think more deeply about certain issues that impact my life. Especially considering 2020 was an election year, and we saw how social media impacted the 2016 election. Social media has been my primary way of connecting with friends for … More The Social Dilemma, Social Engineering, and Ethics in Social Media
What I Miss About Being a Tour Guide in San Francisco
It’s been a little over a year since the impact of the pandemic caused me to lose my good, Union-supported tour guide job in San Francisco. I’d been one of the tour guides who helped support our move to a Union contract in the summer of 2019. We successfully negotiated higher wages and better benefits. … More What I Miss About Being a Tour Guide in San Francisco
